Understanding Blood Cancers

Blood cancers — leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma — affect how your body makes and uses blood cells. They range from highly curable (Hodgkin lymphoma) to chronic conditions manageable for years. Treatment advances have improved outcomes dramatically across all types.

Warning Signs to Recognise

Persistent fatigue — that doesn't improve with rest.
Frequent infections — or unexplained fevers.
Easy bruising or bleeding — including nosebleeds and small red skin spots.
Painless swollen lymph nodes — in the neck, armpits, or groin.
Unexplained weight loss — and drenching night sweats.
If several of these occur together or persist beyond 2–3 weeks, a blood test and consultation are strongly recommended.

How Dr. Bedi Treats Blood Cancer

Dr. Bedi's Royal Marsden training gives him specialised depth in blood cancers that few in the region can match.

01

Chemotherapy Protocols

From aggressive induction for acute leukaemia to gentler approaches for chronic conditions — balancing effectiveness with quality of life.

02

Immunotherapy & Targeted Agents

Monoclonal antibodies and small-molecule inhibitors have revolutionised treatment for many lymphomas and leukaemias.

03

Stem Cell Transplantation

For eligible patients, bone marrow transplant offers the possibility of cure. Fortis coordinates the full journey.

04

Watch & Wait

Cancers like CLL may not need immediate treatment. Dr. Bedi monitors carefully, intervening only when needed.

Questions Patients Often Ask

Is leukaemia always fatal?

No. Many forms are highly treatable. Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in younger patients has cure rates exceeding 80%.

Hodgkin vs non-Hodgkin lymphoma?

Hodgkin lymphoma has very high cure rates. Non-Hodgkin is broader with varying prognoses — many are very treatable.

What does a stem cell transplant involve?

High-dose chemo followed by infusion of healthy stem cells to rebuild bone marrow. Dr. Bedi explains if this fits your case.

Can blood cancer relapse?

Possible, which is why follow-up monitoring is important. Dr. Bedi creates a personalised surveillance plan.
